Sachin sir spoke to me for 40 minutes after I had a bad game in IPL 2022: MI's Basil Thampi

The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have had a horrible time in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The Men in Blue and Gold are currently reeling at the bottom of the table with only two wins in 11 matches and are out of the contention for the playoffs race.

Despite purchasing the likes of Ishan Kishan, Tim David, and Daniel Sams during the IPL 2022 mega auction, the five-time champions have been struggling in every department of the game. The likes of Jaydev Unadkat and Basil Thampi have been given the chance to perform for the team. However, both pacers have played five games each and have conceded at an economy rate of 9.50/over.

Despite underperforming, MI coaching and management staff has backed its players and have gotten their morale up after their poor show on the field. Similarly, Indian pacer Thampi has now recalled his conversation with legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar, who has been a part of MI since the inception of IPL.

“I had a bad game, and I got a message from the doc (the doctor) that Sachin sir wants to meet me. I spent like.. forty minutes with him and we talked about cricket. We covered everything,” Thampi recalled in the video posted by the franchise on its official YouTube channel.

“Zak (Zaheer) sir and Bondy (Bond) sir were talking about how they prepare for the game. How do they react to the situation… They were very very friendly to talk to and you know, whenever we have time, we can message them,”  Thampi added.

The five-time champions will now take on the defending champions Chennai Super Kings in their next group stage encounter of IPL 2022 on May 12 (Thursday). It may be noted that MI is placed last in the points table.
