Former West Indies speedster Michael Holding criticised fellow West Indian Kieron Pollard for his aggressive tweets against commentator Sanjay Manjrekar.

Pollard is no stranger to controversies, especially when it comes to the IPL. In earlier editions of the IPL, Kieron Pollard stuck a tape over his mouth while fielding. Pollard was also fined by the match referee for almost throwing his bat at Australia’s Mitchell Starc.

Following Sunday’s game, which saw Mumbai Indians clinch a thriller against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium, Pollard took to Twitter to lash out against Sanjay Manjrekar.

Manjrekar, who was in the commentary box, mentioned that Pollard is better suited to bat in the last 6 overs of the innings. The West Indian all-rounder had, however, come into bat at the start of the 13th over. After he scored a run-a-ball 17, Sanjay Manjrekar said, “Pollard does not have the brains to play early in the innings.”

Nevertheless, after Mumbai sealed a thrilling 4-wicket victory, Pollard took to Twitter to blast the former Indian batsmen. He wrote, “@sanjaymanjrekar u feel any positive can come out of your mouth bcuz u get pay to talk u can continue with your verbal diarrhoea..,”

“Do you know how I get big so. about BRAINLESS.. words are very powerful .. once it leaves u can’t take it back.. sins of parents fall on…,”

Michael Holding was however quite upset about the incident. He commented on the misuse of social media under such circumstances and condemned Pollard’s outburst.

“A lot of people, including the American President, think social media is their license to say whatever they feel like whether responsibly or not or whether right or not. Unfortunately, that’s the world we now live in and further proof that “progress” doesn’t necessarily mean better,” Holding was quoted as saying to Mumbai Mirror.

“I would just say that folk need to be a bit more responsible with what they say through social media and not just say things because the medium gives them access to the world,” the Windies legend added.
