Australian skipper Steve Smith seemed to be following the footsteps of his Indian counterpart Virat Kohli. While Smith had been spot on with his reviews in the series thus far, the reviews he took in the Bengaluru Test did not go in his way as expected.

Team Australia suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the hosts kudos to a batting collapse of Australia. One of the dismissals that has been the talk of the day was of middle order batsman Shaun Marsh. As the replays clearly suggested, the ball was missing the stumps but the umpire ruled it in the favor of the bowler.

As per the quotes in News18, skipper Steve Smith revealed that there was an utter confusion between him and Marsh when considering a review for the dismissal. The action perspired in the second session of day 4 when Umesh Yadav fired one into the off side channel of Marsh. Marsh offered no shot and the Indians went forward with the appeal. Offering no shot rarely goes in the favor of the batsman and it was the case again. Umpire ruled it out and Marsh was seen coming to his skipper, who was at the non-striker’s end.

Both batsmen were seen having a brief discussion before Marsh decided to walk out without taking the review. The replays later showed that the ball would have hit the stumps and had the Aussies reviewed it, the umpire’s call would have been overturned. Smith talked about the same in the post-match conference and disclosed that it was a miscommunication between him and Marsh that led to the latter’s dismissal.

He noted, “In regards to Shaun’s one, we weren’t entirely sure. I sort of said ‘go’ as in ‘go have a look at it’ and he turned around and started walking. I should’ve probably just put my hands up and done it. We saw the replay and it was missing the stumps so it would have been a nice one to have reviewed,” quoted Steve Smith.

Cricket Australia also went on to show their amusement on the dismissal by posting the video on the social media.
