The retirement news of Dale Steyn has taken the whole world by storm. The 36-year-old legendary pacer decided to bid adieu to the longest format of the game on Monday. While the whole world applauded Steyn and congratulated him on a wonderful career, one of the Pakistani journalists had other ideas. He took this opportunity to mock veteran Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez for being Dale Steyn’s bunny.

Hafeez is currently 38-years-old. The batting all-rounder has retired from Test cricket but continues to play the shorter formats of the game. He adds a great balance to the batting line-up and is more than capable of being the fifth bowler in the team. However, a journalist named Saleem Khalid tried to mock him after the Proteas speedster announced his Test retirement. Mohammad Hafeez clearly understood the journalist’s intentions and gave him a perfect reply.

“Dale Steyn announced his Test retirement, CC: Mohammad Hafeez,” Khalid wrote in his tweet in Urdu. While he wrote about Dale Steyn’s retirement from Test cricket, he also tried to indirectly hint at Hafeez getting out to Steyn many times in all formats.

You are a pure journalist, replied Mohammad Hafeez

The Punjab-born cricketer, in his reply, shut the journalist who tried to mock him. Hafeez first spoke about Steyn’s retirement in his reply. He said that he wasn’t sure if that was the right or wrong decision. However, he termed Salim Khalid to be a pure journalist. “Right or Wrong, not sure. But u r Pure Journalist,” wrote the Pakistan cricketer in his reply to the original tweet.

Mohammad Hafeez has featured in 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 89 T20Is thus far in his career. While he scored 3,652 runs in the longest format of the game, he mustered 6,614 runs in the 50-over format. He is closing in on 2000 runs in the shortest format of the game and is just 92 runs away from the milestone.

There were speculations about Hafeez’s retirement post the World Cup 2019. However, it seems as if he would want to continue and might play until the T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia. The journalist, though, was quick to correct his mistake. “Dear it’s just a joke,” he later replied.
