Mohammad Huraira happens to be the nephew of famous Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik and he recently made a name for himself in his debut first-class season with Northern. In the recently concluded Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, he returned as the highest run-getter of the season with 986 runs while averaging 58.
Huraira stole the limelight in the tournament while smashing two centuries and five half-centuries. In addition to his classy show against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he smashed a triple ton in the tournament which was the highest score of the tournament from an individual. Huraira recently opened on his final innings and added that it would have been great had it come in a winning cause.
“Of course, it’s personally satisfying to be the top scorer but it would have been much nicer if it was in a winning cause. But hats off to KP; they outplayed us in all three departments. I didn’t have a huge goal of finishing as the highest scorer, but I had small goals from game to game. Whenever I get a chance, I give it my best shot. It came off thankfully. Last year, I didn’t get a chance and I was off-color after the U-19 World Cup. I just worked hard,” said Huraira while in conversation with ESPNcricinfo.
My aim is to give match-winning performances for my country: Mohammad Huraira
The young Pakistan cricketer smashed 311 runs in the recently concluded tournament and became the second-youngest from his nation to achieve the feat of hitting a triple ton in the first-class game. He concluded while adding that his next target is to debut for Pakistan across formats. The men in green have also struggled with an opening option and with Abid Ali’s heart ailment, Huraira might get a look in in the national team soon. His chance in the national side might take some time but he has established a great name for himself in the FC games.
“My next target is to represent Pakistan in all three formats, and to give match-winning performances for my country,” added Huraira.
