#2 Tymal Mills
Royal Challengers Bangalore had suffered a big blow when Mitchell Starc opted to pull out of this year’s league and they were in desperate need of an overseas pacer. The Englishman Tymal Mills had impressed one and all with his skills at the slog overs during the recent tour to India. Hence RCB invested big in him and spent a huge amount of INR 12 crores.
Performance so far
There were a huge amount of expectations from Mills as RCB were weak in the bowling department and the title eluded them last year only due to that weakness. The left-hander had a decent start against Sunrisers Hyderabad where he had figures of 31/1 and accounted for the wicket of Yuvraj Singh. SRH went on to score 207 runs and in the innings of 10 runs per over, Mills had an economy of 7.75.
In the 3 matches that followed, he had figures of 33/1 (4), 22/1 (2) and 36/0 (3.5). After 4 matches, he had only 3 wickets to his name and had gone for 8.82 runs an over. The batsmen didn’t have too much trouble in picking his variations. The slower ball and the bouncers didn’t really work either.
The thing that didn’t go in his favor was the fact that he either bowled in the powerplay or at the death where the batsmen are on the charge. So far, he hasn’t proved his tag of being a specialist death bowler and the performances have been well below par. To add to his misery, he succumbed to an injury after the fourth game and the Kiwi fast bowler Adam Milne replaced him.
Very recently, he made a comeback after the injury and finally came to the fore against RCB. He extracted help out of the Eden pitch and took 2 wickets for 31 runs.
Price: INR 12 crores
