Australian legendary cricket Micheal Hussey, or simply Mike Hussey, made a shocking revelation on Saturday. The 42-year old Western Australian has revealed that he wants to become the head coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) side Chennai Super Kings some day. Post retirement, Mr Cricket is often seen in India, commentating in the franchise based T20 leagues.

The IPL commentator is now commentating on the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). Besides the coaching ambitions, Hussey also shared his views about the saga between Indian skipper Virat Kohli and the former Indian head coach Anil Kumble, who resigned from his job. Hussey claimed that by giving his resignation, Kumble has done the perfect job.

“Anil must have done many honourable things as a coach. But unless you were in the inner sanctum of the Indian team, you would not know what the differences between them were. The rapport between the coach and the captain is vital and Anil did the honourable thing by leaving,” said the owner of 22 international centuries, as quoted by The Hindu. When he asked about what he ideally wants in a budding talent, the legend instantly replied “Character. Talent comes only after that.”

When asked about whether he wants to coach the Chennai Super Kings any day, the Pertn born player instantly replied with a yes. “A lot can happen in two years. The players are not the same, the teams are not the same and you need to re-build. But CSK’s management gives the coaching staff and the cricketers the freedom to find solutions,” said Hussey regarding the comeback of CSK who were banned for two years for breaking the rules of the competition.

Dhoni and Kohli are different players

Hussey, as calm as a cucumber as he used to be with the bat, has not changed with the microphone. When asked to compare India’s former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni with present captain Virat Kohli, Hussey avoided the conundrum by saying that both belong to a different genre.

“I have really enjoyed Kohli’s captaincy. He really sets high standards. M.S. Dhoni, too, had his successes but they are different personalities. He has done a lot for India and should go on his own terms. If Dhoni feels he can contribute to India in the 2019 World Cup, he will continue, otherwise he would leave on his own,” concluded Hussey.
