In a game that had a lot to watch repeatedly, one moment specifically stole the show. After playing the role of captain for about 10 years, one is bound to get used to the decision-making. MS Dhoni not captaining anymore is going to take a while to get used to, for fans and probably himself too. Jason Roy on the crease was making things look out of control for India.

Even as Eoin Morgan looked promising, Dhoni should get the credit for his sense of awareness and apt judgement behind the stumps more than the bowler. The moment he pouched the ball, he knew Morgan had knicked it even before the bowler realised. But the umpire didn’t think so and Dhoni being the confident man he is, signalled the umpire that they’ll take the review that very instant.

Virat Kohli, the newly appointed skipper went with the decision and officially ‘sanctioned’ that the captain agrees, without any second thoughts because everyone is well aware that Dhoni and empty claims don’t go well together. Just as expected, umpire Nandan’s decision was overturned and Dhoni’s brilliant mind had cast it’s magic one more time. The English skipper had to depart at 28 off 26,

In his recent press conference, Virat mentioned about coming across the stat of 95% of Dhoni’s appeals being correct, and hence, his call on the DRS will be final and binding.

We had expected matches after Virat’s appointment as captain to show two captains working in tandem, and this was the first instance of that experience. For Virat to stick to his words and have faith in Dhoni’s accuracy was one of those things in the match that’ll probably be watched more than the highlights itself.

Team India is 1-0 up in the ODI series after a 3-wicket victory against England in one of the most stellar run chases India has been part of. A masterclass from Virat Kohli and a beautiful knock from Kedar Jadhav followed by Hardik Pandya playing the finishing act in ease will have everyone at the dressing room in great spirits before the next ODI on 19th January, at Cuttack.
