The third day of the third Test between India and Australia saw a lot of drama unfold. The Aussies managed to scalp 5 wickets on the day and the hosts had their task done with 240 runs scored today. Team India finished with 360/5 at the end of the day’s play and still trail by 91 runs.

Opener Murali Vijay recently reflected back on the day’s play in a conversation with the commentators after the end of the day. Vijay believes that the match is evenly poised and a good game is on the cards for both sides.

“The game is evenly poised and we can get closer to the total and can possibly extend the lead from there. I think it’s gonna be a good game in hand,” he quoted.

Earlier in the day, it was a 102 run stand between Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara that set the tone for the Indian batting. Pujara went on to score a magnificent ton and continued his run of centuries on venues making their Test debuts. On the other hand, Vijay was unfortunate to have missed out on the opportunity.

He was dismissed on 82. He revealed that he had discussed with Pujara about seeing off the ball in the early overs and that worked for them. Talking about his innings, he remarked that he is not disappointed and believes his shot that got him out was definitely there for the taking.

“They were bowling really tight, to be honest. Pujara and I had a talk in between. The goal was to see off the initial phase. It came out pretty well, but it could have been much better if I had not got out,” quoted Murali Vijay.

“I was not disappointed, actually, because the shot was on. Mid-on, mid-off were inside so I thought it was my shot, but the situation was wrong I guess and the execution was not up to mark. But definitely the shot was on,” the Indian opener added.

One of the key highlights of the day was Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell mocking Indian skipper Virat Kohli. He was seen imitating Kohli’s actions when he had got hurt on day 1. Maxwell ended up drawing a lot of flak for his not-so-sporting nature. Speaking about the same, Vijay said that the Indian team is taking things sportingly and it will only be nice if the Aussies do the same as well.

“We are taking it sportingly. They have to bat again and if they take it the same way, then it will be very great,” Vijay conceded.
