Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited India’s wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha to support the Swacch Bharat Mission. The Swacch Bharat Abhiyan is a campaign devised by the current Modi administration. Its primary aim is to clean up the streets, roads, and infrastructure of India’s cities, towns, and rural areas.

In order to spread the message of this campaign, the Prime Minister nominated several notable figures across India as brand ambassadors. Amongst them are prominent cricketers such as Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Suresh Raina, Mohammad Kaif and Ajinkya Rahane. Saha would become the latest cricketer to join this list of names who will spread the message of cleanliness across India.

Narendra Modi had sent a letter to Saha, who responded to the Prime Minister with a tweet that read, “Thank You @narendramodi Ji for writing this letter to me. I will definitely try my best to contribute my part in this mission for a cleaner India, to start with.. keeping my immediate surrounding clean and a healthy place. Jai Hind. #SwachhataHiSevaMovement #SwachhBharat”

Saha’s injury issues

Wriddhiman Saha was last seen donning an India jersey in January this year in a Test against South Africa in Cape Town. Following the Test series which India lost 2-1, Saha played in the 2018 edition of the IPL. However, the BCCI announced that Saha had suffered an injury during the second qualifier between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, which was believed to be the reason for him missing the lone Test against Afghanistan as well.

Furthermore, a BCCI press release revealed that he will be out of action for five to six weeks, which ruled him out of India’s all-important tour of England. With India’s first choice wicketkeeper out of action, India were forced to bring Dinesh Karthik into the mix of things. Their squad for the England tour also had youngster Rishabh Pant, who got a chance to don the gloves when Karthik failed with the bat.

As far as Saha is concerned, he had to undergo a surgery but there is still a cloud of doubt over whether he will find a place in India’s squad that flies to Australia later this year.
