India v New Zealand: Schedule and squads

The itinerary of New Zealand’s tour to India has been announced. The Kiwis will play a three-match Test series and a bevy of five matches in the ODI series. The tour is scheduled to take place on the 22nd of September to the 29th of October. Although New Zealand cricket may be in the ascendancy at the moment, their previous tours to India haven’t really gone as well as they would have expected.

New Zealand under Daniel Vettori made the trip to India in 2012. Playing a Test and a T20 international series, the Kiwis were given a proper hammering in the Tests. However, they went on to clinch the T20 series 1-0 after the second T20I was eventually affected by rain. While 2012 saw the Kiwis come marginally close to victory, their 2010 tour was perhaps the lowest in all their records in cricket.

Once again, under the stewardship of Daniel Vettori, they faced up to the might of MS Dhoni and his Indian team. This time, however, they were whitewashed by what was perceived as a second-string side led by newly-appointed skipper Gautam Gambhir who led a plethora of debutantes.

However, while history is certainly not on their side, the Kiwis have had a decent record in the subcontinent in recent times. They have reached the semi-final of both the World Cup 2011 and the World T20 in 2016 and will certainly be hoping to make the most of their upcoming tour.

The Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, Indore, and the Eden Gardens will host the three Test matches. Dharamsala is all set to host its first ODI match with the first ODI expected to be played at the picturesque venue. Delhi, Mohali, Ranchi and Vizag will host the subsequent ODIs.
