Pakistan’s dismal run down under continued with yet another crushing defeat against New Zealand in the first T20I on Monday. Prior to this, the team had succumbed to a 0-5 drubbing in the ODIs. Amidst this backdrop, the entire unit has come in the firing range of the critics. But the head coach Mickey Arthur, as per the quotes in Geo.tv, is not giving up on the players just yet.
After the humiliating loss in the T20 game, Arthur admitted that it is frustrating to lose matches in a row. However, he still has firm faith in the ability of the young boys in the side. Mickey Arthur remarked that the players have been practicing very hard and hence, such defeats go down as disappointing results for the entire camp. Last season, the Pakistani team had lost the Test series against New Zealand and were whitewashed by the Australian side as well.
“Very frustrating, very hard to understand [why we are continuing to lose] despite all our hard work, but I’m not giving up on this young unit. We have tried to change roles, set things around, we’ve done all the training, we [resolved] to commit to our decisions, so it’s incredibly frustrating to get such [disappointing] results,” Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur quoted.
Inexperienced batting order
In the match, the Men in Green saw a familiar batting collapse. They were reeling on 38/6 at one stage. Had there not been a certain Babar Azam with a fighting 41 in the game, the team would have failed to cross the 100-run mark too. Mickey Arthur noted that it is indeed a very inexperienced batting order. All they need to do is just act smarter and things would fall in place for them.
“It’s a very inexperienced top order.. we didn’t execute [our plans] well, but I’m not giving up on this young team. We just have to be smarter, assess the conditions better, execute better. We were playing as if we needed to score 170..whereas 140-150 could have been good enough. But obviously 105 is not enough,” mentioned the Pakistan head coach.
