There is a lot of anticipation amongst the cricket fans as the IPL is just 2 days away. One of India’s biggest domestic tournaments will kick start on April 5 when the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on last year finalists Royal Challengers Bangalore in their own den.

The opening ceremony is also scheduled to be held at Hyderabad before the first game. The first phase of the tournament is usually started slowly when teams experiment and try to figure out their best combination. Things start to move quickly around the Playoffs, which is considered the business end of the tournament.

Contrary to the last season, the BCCI today announced that there will be no reserve days for the three Playoffs scheduled to be played between May 16 and May 19 at Mumbai and Bangalore. The final set to take place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on May 21, has the next day (May 22) as a reserve day. Teams must take note of this announcement and look to do their best in the league phase because, in an event of a Play-off being washed out to rain, the league points may come into the picture.

The 46-day long tournament, in which 8 teams will participate, will be played across 10 different venues. The Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore will also host IPL games this season after a gap of 7 years. The tournament will consist of 60 games this year, which includes 56 league games to be played between the 8 franchises.

Though the IPL has been marred with a number of injuries to star players, the excitement can be felt already. The enthusiasm will only increase and will be at its peak when the captains of Sunrisers and RCB will walk out for the toss on Wednesday in Hyderabad.
