India’s head coach Anil Kumble has dismissed the allegations of ball tampering levelled against the Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli. Kumble said that he does not believe in “giving wind to such stories”.
A British media released the footage of Virat Kohli applying saliva to the ball with some sweet in his mouth, during the first Test against England. However, neither the opposition team nor the match referee made any complaints filed within a duration of 5 days – which is a must as per ICC’s rules.
Clarifying India’s stand in the matter, Anil Kumble was quoted saying to the media persons that, “First of all, I don’t want to react to any report that is there in the media. As far as I am concerned, neither the umpire nor the match referee ever came to us talking about it. We would certainly not like to give too much wind to the story.”
The 46-year old also said that the team is not worried about what the British media has reported. “There is nothing to worry about. People can allege and write whatever they want in the media. As far as we are concerned, none of our players were a part of such activity.”
Speaking about the similarities with the Faf du Plessis incident in Hobart, Kumble termed it as a “mountain being made out of molehill”. Du Plessis was fined 100 per cent of his match fee after been found guilty.
South Africa is leading the three-match Test series 2-0 and the third match has started today. “South Africa has played exceptional cricket to beat Australia 2-0 and for Faf du Plessis, to be told that ball tampering, it is very silly. It’s making a mountain out of a molehill,” Kumble concluded.
