Here are all the statistical highlights from 2nd day’s play which was dominated by Kane Williamson:

A big knock after been put into bat:

2 – Kane Williamson became only the 2nd captain to score 250+ runs in a Test innings against West Indies. Peter May was the first to do so who smashed 281 in England’s second innings during the 1957 Birmingham Test. Overall, Williamson’s 251 is the 5th highest individual score by a New Zealand captain in Test cricket and the 3rd highest at home.

251 – Williamson’s 251-run knock is now the 3rd highest individual score for any captain in the first innings of a Test after losing the toss. Only Graham Gooch (333) against India in the 1990 Lord’s Test while Stephen Fleming (262) against South Africa in the 2006 Cape Town Test recorded higher first-innings scores than Williamson after been put in to bat.

Highest Test score for Williamson:

3 – Kane Williamson’s 251 is now his highest individual score in Test cricket and his 3rd double century in this format. All the three 200s of Kane came in New Zealand only making him the first player with as many as three double tons on New Zealand soil in Test cricket.

4 – Williamson is now the 4th player with three or more 200s for New Zealand in Test cricket after Brendon McCullum (4), Stephen Fleming (3) and Ross Taylor (3). Two of Kane’s three double tons came while leading the team which makes him the 3rd NZ skipper after Stephen Fleming (3) and Brendon McCullum (3) with multiple double tons.

Williamson creates history at Seddon Park:

2 – Kane Williamson became the first player to score multiple double tons for New Zealand at a venue (Seddon Park, Hamilton). Kane scored an unbeaten 200 against Bangladesh in the last year’s Test match at this venue.

251 – Williamson’s 251-run knock is also the highest individual score in first-class cricket at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. The previous highest was Peter Ingram’s 247 for Central Districts against Northern Districts during the 2008-09 State Championship. Williamson is also the first player to score multiple double tons in FC cricket at Seddon Park.

Kane tops NZ captains:

9 – Kane Williamson now has as many as nine centuries in Test cricket as captain; the most number of Test tons for any New Zealand skipper surpassing Stephen Fleming’s tally of eight hundreds.

11 – Williamson now has scored as many as 11 centuries in Test cricket at home; the 2nd most by any player in New Zealand going past John Wright’s 10 centuries and stands only behind Ross Taylor’s 12 tons.

Roach goes past Roberts:

204 – Kemar Roach, with 204 wickets, is now the 8th highest wicket-taker in Test cricket for West Indies. He went past Sir Andy Roberts’ tally of 202 wickets with the 3-wicket haul in New Zealand’s first innings.
