Former New Zealand all-rounder Scoot Styris has said that the results of both the ODI and T20I series could have been different, had Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah not played in the series. The 23-year-old Indian death over specialist scalped a total of 9 wickets from 6 matches across the two formats in which both the teams contested for an outcome.

Kane Williamson kiwi unit lost the ODI final by just 6 runs after they almost chased down the daunting target of 338 in Kanpur. In that particular match, Bumrah picked up figures of 3/47, taking out dangerous Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor and pinch-hitter Mitchell Santner.

In the T20I final at  Thiruvananthapuram, the decider which was cut down to an 8-over-a-side game due to rain, Bumrah once again turned out to be the chief architect as he finished with 2/9 in his 2 overs. India went on to win the game by 6 runs.

Bumrah’s show

Post the final, Bumrah, who bagged the man of the match and the man of the series award said “The slower ball was gripping, after the first inning, Bhuvi and I had a chat about what will work. We saw they were gripping the ball, but our slower balls were not gripping. If you think about pressure, you won’t be able to deliver.”

Styris tweeted “Great ODI and T20 series NZ vs IND. I genuinely believe if @Jaspritbumrah93 wasn’t playing , NZ wins both series 2-1″. It didn’t really please the Indian supporters as some of them said that had Trent Boult not participated in the series, India would have clean swept the opposition. While another follower said that without Tom Latham, the Blackcaps wouldn’t have had an outside chance.

Styris was very much in the news for his banter with former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra. But as it looks like Chopra had the last laugh. Here is the tweet posted by Styris:
