The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Pepsi as the main sponsor of the Pakistan national team until June 30, 2021. Over the last two decades, the popular brand has been sponsoring the Pakistan cricket team across tournaments. The news comes when the team is gearing up for their bilateral series against England that gets underway on August 5 at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

Pakistan cricket is going through a tumultuous phase due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their third leg of the home series against Bangladesh had to be shelved and even the PSL halted before the semis. Saad Munawar Khan, Marketing and Franchise Director at PepsiCo Pakistan, expressed his pride and happiness of continuing the brand’s association with Pakistan cricket.

Pakistan’s healthy relation with Pepsi

“We are proud to continue our much-cherished journey with Pakistan cricket as the principal partner of the Pakistan men’s national cricket team. Pepsi, Pakistan cricket and our passionate supporters are all part of one family and we are very excited to see our champion cricketers taking the field and making us proud with stellar performances,” Munawar was quoted as saying in Sportskeeda.

Babar Hamid, PCB’s Commercial Director, also threw light on the importance of the partnership. “Pepsi has been our valued partner since the 1990s, during which period we have shared great on-field memories and we look forward to that continuing over the next 12-months.

“This extension of the partnership not only reflects our relationship and understanding with Pepsi, but also indicates the value that they place on the profile and visibility that sponsoring the Pakistan men’s national cricket team brings,” Hamid mentioned.

The sponsorship was turning out to be a massive headache for the board following the expiration of its last contract with a beverage company. As far as Pepsi’s relation with Pakistan cricket is concerned, a number of cricketers have also featured on music videos, released on ‘Pepsi Pakistan’s YouTube Channel. Earlier this year on February, a song by the name of ‘Khel Ja Dil Se’ released.

The video featured the legendary Wasim Akram, Pakistan’s batting coach Younis Khan and current cricketers Imad Wasim and Shadab Khan. The song has been performed by Fawad Khan, Aima Baig and a number of popular Pakistan singers.
