It was a timid batting performance displayed by the Mumbai Indians as they registered their 5th loss in 6 games in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Chasing a small target, Mumbai Indians lost wickets at regular intervals which did not help their cause. Aggressive as well as smart captaincy from Kane Williamson made life more difficult for the Mumbai Indians batsmen who tumbled for 87, their joint lowest score in the IPL history.

Rohit Sharma, the MI skipper blamed the batters for the horror show in front of the home crowd whose excitement was doubled when little master Sachin Tendulkar cut his 45th birthday cake. However, as the Sunrisers bowlers took control, the crowd went numb.

We didn’t show character: Rohit Sharma

Sharma talking about their performance after the game felt that the target of 118 should be chased at any ground but his side failed to show character. “We have got ourselves to blame. We should chase down 118 on any wicket, but we didn’t show character, while the Sunrisers did,” said Sharma. According to Rohit, shot making on the pitch was not easy and that he knew the chase won’t be easy. Rohit suggested that his side couldn’t recover as the SRH bowlers made them guessing through their perfect line and length bowling.

Notably, even the Mumbai Indian bowlers bowled pretty well, with Mitchell McClenaghan sending a couple of batters back to the pavilion early on. Apart from skipper Kane Williamson, only Yusuf Pathan showed some restraint. Hardik Pandya bowled well but it was Mayank Markande who was the pick of the bowlers as he took the purple cap yet again after his 15 for 2 in 3 over spell.

Rohit praised the bowlers for restricting the SRH side who saw the return of Shikhar Dhawan after injury, only to last for 6 deliveries. After early wickets, Surya Kumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya stitched a small partnership and were looking to take the game away before Rashid Khan and Siddarth Kaul struck back to back to puncture the chances of the home side.
