Karachi Kings pacer Mohammad Amir is likely to miss the opening game of the seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The tournament is set to get underway on Thursday (January 27) at the National Stadium in Karachi. Karachi Kings will face the Multan Sultans in the first game. But Amir is struggling with his fitness due to side strain and isn’t a certainty to feature in the encounter.

Karachi Kings are also set to miss vice-captain Imad Wasim and Jordan Thompson in this game as they are yet to complete their quarantine period. If they miss Amir as well, then it will be a huge blow for them as it will not be easy for the team to defeat the defending champions Multan Sultans led by Mohammad Rizwan.

According to reports in Cricket Pakistan, a Karachi Kings official has stated that the final call on Mohammad Amir will be taken only before the toss. It remains to be seen if the left-arm pacer manages to get fit in time for the game.

All eyes on PCB as PSL set to get underway

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s T20I openers, Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam are set to lock horns against each other in the opening game of the PSL. Both teams will miss a certain set of players for different reasons. But these two batters, leading their respective sides will play a crucial role in getting them off to a good start.

Also, all the eyes will be on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to see how they manage to pull off the entire tournament amid COVID scares. Earlier, eight personnel including three players tested positive for COVID-19. Among them, Haider Ali has recovered and joined the Peshawar Zalmi camp but Wahab Riaz and Arshad Iqbal might not be available for the team’s first match.

Quetta Gladiators all-rounder Shahid Afridi also tested positive on Thursday. He had gone out of the bio-secure for a health check-up and returned on the same day itself. But will now miss the first few matches as he will have to undergo seven days of quarantine and needs to test negative as well before re-entering the bubble.
