As the cricket fraternity is gearing up for the highly-anticipated ICC <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/icc-would-not-like-it-aakash-chopra-feels-icc-might-not-like-the-idea-of-bcci-hosting-ipl-2021-in-uae-just-before-t20-world-cup/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">T20 World Cup</a>, let’s flip the pages and take a look at the leaders who are ruling the shorter format.

<h3>7. Temba Bavuma (South Africa)</h3>

There was a time when South Africa ruled the game of cricket as they boasted of having some world-class players in their side. However, in recent times, there has been a downfall in South Africa’s performance across all the formats of the game. 
One of the reasons behind the same can be a frequent change in the leadership group. Temba Bavuma is the most inexperienced captain to feature in the list as, so far, he has led the Proteas side in just four T20 Internationals. 
After <a href="https://www.facebook.com/crictracker/posts/4575067559190596" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Faf du Plessis</a> stepped down as South African captain in 2020, Quinton de Kock was asked to fill his shoes in all formats. However, in March 2021, Cricket South Africa (CSA) decided to sack De Kock to bring split captaincy into play. 
While Dean Elgar became the Test skipper, Temba Bavuma took over the reins of the white-ball team. Under Bavuma’s leadership, South Africa have featured in four T20 Internationals. However, they managed to secure victory in just one match and lost as many as three encounters.

West Indies decorated all-rounder <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/shahrukh-khan-reminds-us-of-a-young-kieron-pollard-when-he-had-come-into-the-ipl-virender-sehwag/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kieron Pollard</a> is a complete T20 player as he excels in all three facets of the game be it batting, bowling, or fielding. Pollard took over the reins of the ODI and T20I teams from Jason Holder and Carlos Brathwaite respectively in September 2019. 
There has been a significant improvement in the Caribbean team’s performance especially in the shortest format of the game since the appointment of Pollard. The decorated all-rounder has, many times, shown a glimpse of his leadership qualities in the Indian Premier League (IPL). 
Pollard has brilliantly led Mumbai Indians (MI) in the absence of their main skipper Rohit Sharma. The 34-year-old boasts of having a win percentage of 46.66 while captaining the West Indies.
In the time span of 2019 to 2021, the Trinidadian cricketer has led West Indies as many as 17 times. While they secured victory seven times, the result didn&#8217;t go in their favor in eight matches. The two games played by West Indies were also abandoned. 

<h3>5. Kane Williamson (New Zealand)</h3>

The fifth place in the elite list is occupied by New Zealand’s <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/pat-cummins-picks-his-world-test-xi-kane-williamson-to-bat-at-no-3/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kane Williamson</a>. The Tauranga-born forms a valuable part of the Black Caps squad both as a batsman and as a captain. The 30-year-old is counted among the best captains in the modern era. 
Williamson started his journey as a captain of the Kiwi camp in 2012 and has been going strong ten years later in 2021 too. Thus far, Kane has captained the NZ team in as many as 49 T20 Internationals and has a winning percentage of 48.95. 
During his tenure, the Kiwis have managed to win 23 games while losing 24 fixtures. One shouldn’t focus so much on the percentage as the figures can be misleading considering New Zealand have played most of their T20Is in difficult conditions. 
The 32-year-old, also, has stunning numbers under his belt as a batsman that speak volumes about why he is considered as the backbone of the Kiwi team. The veteran has featured in 67 games in the shortest format of the game, scoring 1805 runs at an average of  31.7 and strike rate of 125.1.

<h3>4. Aaron Finch (Australia)</h3>

The 2018 ball-tampering scandal wreaked havoc in the Australian cricket fraternity as the controversy left the team vulnerable and scattered. In the tough times, Cricket Australia (CA) was looking for a leader who could bind the team and help in making them the world-beaters again.
Their hunt ended on Aaron Finch as he was named as the permanent captain of the Australian side in both ODIs and T20Is. However, it wasn’t the first time that the 34-year-old was handed the responsibility of leading the side. 
In 2014, Finch was appointed as Australia&#8217;s T20I captain, replacing George Bailey, but in 2016 the management believed that having <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/steve-smith-is-not-an-ideal-candidate-to-lead-australia-again-ian-chappell/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Steve Smith</a> as the skipper across all formats would result in more consistency. 
Under Finch, Australia have done exceedingly well as he has a win percentage of 52.38 as the T20I skipper. The 34-year-old has essayed the role of the leader in 44 matches, winning 22 and losing 20.

The English team has become a formidable force in world cricket and the entire credit for the same goes to their skipper Eoin Morgan. 2015 can be considered as one of the worst phases in England’s cricket history as they were facing some serious identity crisis.
In the desperate times, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/even-we-dont-know-what-they-mean-nitish-rana-on-code-words-shared-between-eoin-morgan-and-nathan-leamon/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Eoin Morgan</a> stood up and took the whole responsibility of building the team and making them reach greater heights again. The English team is now proudly sitting at the top of the T20I team rankings by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
So far, Morgan has led  England in a stunning 59 T20 Internationals. Out of 59 matches, England has scripted victory in 33 games and they have a win percentage of 58.62.

Being a captain of the Indian cricket team isn’t easy as you are under scrutiny almost all the time. Above all, Virat Kohli carried the extra pressure of succeeding <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ms-dhoni-pets-new-horse-at-ranchi-farmhouse-wife-sakshi-shares-an-adorable-video/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MS Dhoni</a>, who is, to date, regarded as the best captain to lead Team India. 
However, the 32-year-old  has defied all the odds and has helped India dominate every format of the game in the international circuit. Team India are experiencing a dream ride in the shortest format as in recent times they defeated teams like Australia, England, and New Zealand both at home and away from home. 
Virat Kohli stands second in the list of top T20I captains at the moment with an impressive win percentage of 65.11. The Delhi stalwart has successfully led India in 45 T20 Internationals from 2017 to 2021. 
Under his captaincy, the Men in Blue have registered victory in 27 matches while losing just 14. Apart from the brilliant captaincy records, the thing that makes Kohli stand out is his commendable display with the willow. 

<h3>1. Babar Azam (Pakistan)</h3>

This might come as a surprise for many cricket enthusiasts but the number one position in the elite list is occupied by Pakistan skipper Babar Azam. Babar took over the reins from Sarfaraz Ahmed in 2020. 
The Lahore-born is a phenomenal batsman and, in a short period of time, has successfully established himself as one of the best batsmen of the modern era across all formats.
While there are no doubts in regards to <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/statistical-comparison-on-who-is-better-t20i-batsman-between-virat-kohli-and-babar-azam/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Babar Azam</a>, the batsman, the 26-year-old has a lot to prove when it comes to his leadership skills. Azam is relatively new to the role and will take his own time to adapt to the demands of the captain&#8217;s job. 
He has led Pakistan in 21 matches so far. In 21 games, Pakistan emerged victorious in 13 matches while they ended up on the wrong side of the result in six fixtures. 
Babar has a winning percentage of 68.42. However, one can’t forget that the Men in Green have played a chunk of their T20I matches against teams like Zimbabwe and South Africa.
