Sydney Thunder started their 2020-21 BBL campaign with a defeat against the Melbourne Stars. However, the team, captained by Callum Ferguson, have stormed back with four victories on the trot.

Currently placed at second on the points table with a net run rate of 2.034, the Thunder have found the going pretty easy.  In their previous game, they beat the Melbourne Stars by 75 runs. Their next game is against the Melbourne Renegades on Wednesday, January 1 at the Carrara Oval in Queensland.

In their previous meeting, Ferguson and Co thumped Aaron Finch’s men by 129 runs after bowling them out for a meagre 80 in 12.2 overs. The Renegades have had a horrendous run. Despite starting with a victory against Perth Scorchers, they are placed in the seventh spot of the table.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Carrara Oval has been an excellent one for batting. Both matches turned out to be high-scoring affairs. But the team batting second have had a fair amount of advantage and scores above 180 can well be chased down with ease.

There will be chances of rain, but not an alarming one. The temperature would be around 24 degrees Celsius with the humidity mostly in the high-70s.

Probable Top Performers for REN vs THU

Shaun Marsh– Melbourne Renegades

Shaun Marsh has looked the most accomplished as far as the Renegades’ batting is concerned. The left-hander has scored a couple of half-centuries with a top score of 67.

In five matches, the southpaw has scored 146 runs at an average and strike-rate of 29.20 and 120.66 respectively. With his team’s batting not being able to fire on all cylinders, Marsh can’t afford to be complacent.

Tanveer Sangha– Sydney Thunder

Tanveer Sangha came to the fore in the 2020 U19 World Cup and he has found his way into the Thunder’s playing eleven as well. In the BBL, he hasn’t flattered to deceive by any means.

In five matches, the leg-spinner has bowled 19.2 overs and picked up nine wickets. Moreover, his economy rate of 6.20 has meant that he has been able to keep a check on the batters and flow of runs.
