This unique initiative was flagged off by the head coach of the Rising Pune Supergiant Stephen Fleming, captain of the team Steve Smith and the CEO of the franchise Raghu Iyer. Former Indian cricketer Hrishikesh Kanitkar, who is currently the assistant coach of the RPS, was also present during the proceedings.

This will be the second year for the new Pune franchise in the IPL after they joined in 2016 along with the Gujarat Lions. New Zealand’s Fleming was extremely happy with the initiative and expressed his joys by saying, “We have an excellent team composition this time and all our boys are in great shape as we plan to work in sync to take the team forward. With equal credence given to experience and youth and with Smith at the helm we are hopeful to start the season on a great note. Today the kind of crowd the van has drawn gives us great vibes with just few days left for the league to start. I am sure Pune will support us this way throughout the season.”

For this season of the grand tournament, the Supergiant have also collaborated with Ketto, the crowd funding platform, and have laid out a number of initiatives to give back to their fans off the field. This year they have decided to pay tribute to the Indian Army, by encouraging their followers to take part in the movement. They will urge fans to show their respect to the soldiers of the Indian Army, which will be carried out by an innovative digital media campaign called #SuperGiantsforSoldThis year they have decided to pay tribute to the Indian Armyiers powered by Ketto.

Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor, who is also the co-founder of Ketto, said, “At Ketto, we’ve always wanted to do our bit for the welfare of Indian soldiers. We have raised over Rs 50 lakh over the last four months. We were thrilled to do something similar for our partnership with RPS. It’s great to see such influential people take up something so noble. I’m honored to be a part of this initiative.”

The team will also look to organize a fundraiser on Ketto to assist the PRC, Khadki, Pune, which is a rehabilitation centre for defence forces personnel. While in Pune, players of the Supergiant team will make visits to the PRC to interact with the soldiers and express their gratitude towards them.

On the cricket field, the Supergiant, who’ve had a forgettable 2016 season, will look to turn things around this year. They will clash against the Mumbai Indians for their first game of the season on 6th April at the MCA Stadium.
