Team India led by Rohit Sharma will be starting their Asia Cup campaign with a game against Hong Kong on Tuesday. This encounter is being touted as a practice game for them ahead of the marquee clash against Pakistan on Wednesday. They will be keen to get their combinations right in the absence of Virat Kohli which is why the stand-in skipper Rohit is happy with Ambati Rayudu and Kedar Jadhav returning to the fold.

India’s middle-order muddle is still not resolved and the likes of Rayudu and Manish Pandey might be the solution with the World Cup approaching fast. The former was controversially left out of the team for the England tour for failing the yo-yo test and was replaced by Suresh Raina then who failed to nail his place scoring only 47 runs in two outings.

They should perform well

Rohit Sharma addressed the media in the pre-match press conference in Dubai and hoped that Rayudu and Jadhav live up to the reputation and make the opportunity count. He was happy that they had come back to the team after a long layoff and felt that their contribution will be crucial going forward in the tournament.

“Ambati Rayudu and Kedar Jadhav are important members of the team. Them making a comeback is good for the team. It is important for us that they perform well. I am happy that they are back,” Rohit said.

It will be interesting to see though who will bat at number four for the Men in Blue in their tournament opener. Even Manish Pandey will be eager to contribute while batting in the middle-order and his recent form might give him the edge. However, the comments of the captain suggest that Rayudu and Jadhav will be preferred ahead of him in the playing eleven against Hong Kong.
