Trent Boult helped New Zealand big time in their two-Test series against Sri Lanka in the island nation, which ended in a 1-1 draw, as the visitors beat the home team in the final game. It meant that the first Test series of the inaugural ICC Test championship ended up on equal terms.

Sri Lanka had won the first Test after an amazing chase of 268 runs with captain Dimuth Karunaratne making a sublime century to help his team cross the finishing line. The emerald islanders were looking at a potential series win over the Kiwis after the majority of the first two days of the second Test was washed out due to rain.

However, the Kiwis showed great batting sense with Tom Latham and BJ Watling scoring brilliant centuries and Colin de Grandhomme making useful all-round contributions.

Much of the accolades must also go to the New Zealand bowlers as they bowled Sri Lanka out twice in a span of just more than three days to win the match by an innings and 65 runs. It helped New Zealand gain 60 points in the ICC Test Championship. But one of the Sri Lanka fans didn’t go home sad, as Boult made his day by gifting him his jersey.

Boult’s lovely gesture

The lucky fan to receive the jersey from the Kiwi speedster was the son of former Lankan player-turned-commentator Russel Arnold, Akash. Trent Boult, who became the third New Zealand bowler to achieve the  250  Test wickets milestone, was thanked by the former Sri Lankan batsman on Twitter, in a post which had his son holding up the jersey.

“Thank you #TrentBoult .. @AkashArnold01 Love the way you play … See you around soon Good luck #SlvNZ #cricket,” Arnold’s tweet read.

Tom Latham was named Man of the Match for his sublime hundred in 154-run knock while BJ Watling got Man of the Series award. The two teams will now face off in a three-match T20I series starting from September 1, with all the three day-night matches being played at the Pallekele ground.
