Former Indian batting great Sachin Tendulkar welcomed the Indian Naval Frigate- INS Tarkash, as it docked on river Thames in London on Sunday. Hundreds of UK-based Indians were enthralled to see their hero live. He travelled to the UK amidst the ongoing Indian Premier League where he is the mentor of the Mumbai Indians who are the most successful team in the ongoing edition of the league.

INS Tarkash is a one-of-a-kind stealth ship of the Indian Navy. It is in the UK now to for naval exercises and to mark UK India Year of Culture 2017. The stealth ship set sail from Mumbai last month under the command of Captain Rituraj Sahu of the Indian Navy. It will remain docked in London until next week while the exercise is underway.

An excited Sachin Tendulkar was accompanied by his wife, Anjali Tendulkar at the event. Indian deputy high commissioner to the UK, Dinesh K Patnaik, was also present in there as the ship arrived. He termed it a historic moment as it marked the very first occasion when an Indian ship with stealth abilities was docked in London.

The Indian high commission also made sure Indian citizens based in the UK were informed and invited to the event to be a part of the historic moment.

“It is a very historic moment as this is the first time an Indian stealth frigate has docked at Canary Wharf in London. We wanted Indians based in the UK to come and be part of this unique event”, said Patnaik.

INS Tarkash’s arrival was followed by a string of cultural performances of India. The crowd were very cheerful and danced to the patriotic tunes. Sachin too, felt proud to witness the historic moment for Indian Navy.
