Sri Lanka’s promising batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama is likely to open the innings along with in-form Dimuth Karunaratne in the first Test match at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Sadeera scored 74 in the practice match yesterday. He shared a 133-run stand with Karunaratne. His confidence will be high going into the Test match and he will be eager to showcase his skills in front of the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

The batter made his debut in the second Test match of the 2-match series against Pakistan earlier this year. Sri Lanka went on to win the Test series, sending shockwaves in the cricketing circuit, as beating Pakistan in UAE isn’t a cakewalk. According to Cricket Age, Sadeera is the front runner when it comes to the opening slot.

Skipper Chandimal is confident

Earlier, the skipper of the visiting side Dinesh Chandimal had expressed his desire to win a series in India. He said that his team is ready for the challenge. He also added that he doesn’t want to look too far or back and wants to focus on the job in hand.

“We all know India are No 1 team at the moment. They have played some really good cricket in last two years. We have done really well against Pakistan. We did well as a team. I am sure guys are looking forward to take this challenge,” the skipper said.

“This will be a challenging series for us. It’s nice to be here with the spectators, we love to play here. I don’t want to look back but look forward. We have done well versus Pakistan. The boys are in a good shape and we look forward to take the challenge against India,” said Chandimal

“We have never won a Test in India, it’s a dream for everyone. This is a first game we are playing in Kolkata. It’s always a pleasure playing in front of Kolkata spectators. We need to start well as a team and looking forward.” he added.
