One of the biggest surprises in Team India’s T20I squad for the upcoming series against West Indies was the absence of Sanju Samson. The MSK Prasad-led selection panel mysteriously dropped the right-handed batsman from the squad, much to everyone’s surprise. Unsurprisingly, the decision has become the major talking point in the cricket circles and understandably so.

Samson, who made his India debut way back in 2015, was finally given a recall to the side for the T20I series against Bangladesh earlier this month. The Kerala star had earned the call after his consistent displays for his state side, Rajasthan Royals and India A in the last couple of years. With Virat Kohli not a part of the squad for the Bangladesh series, it was expected that Samson would easily find a place in the playing XI.

But to everyone’s utter surprise, the highly-rated batsman did not get a chance at all during the three-match series. While Shivam Dube was given an opportunity to make his debut and Rishabh Pant was backed again, Samson only warmed the bench. And as if that was not enough, the selectors added more salt to his wounds by dropping him for the upcoming series against West Indies.

Sanju Samson reacts to snub

Sometimes silence is the best answer and Sanju Samson did exactly that after being dropped from the T20 squad. Samson took to Twitter to express his feelings. And looking at his tweet, one can say that he was at a loss of words to describe the snub as he just posted a smiling smiley.

All Samson could do now is to continue toiling hard in domestic cricket and hope for the best. Meanwhile, India have recalled Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav to their T20I squad. Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja, who missed the series against Bangladesh, also returned to the 15-man squad.

Skipper Virat Kohli has also returned to lead the side after being rested for the Bangladesh assignment. The three-match series will start from December 6 in Mumbai. After the T20Is, both the teams will play three ODIs.
