Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is also the principal owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise, is likely to miss 5 games at the Eden Gardens this year.

Shah Rukh left for the United States of America on Wednesday, where he will be attending the San Francisco Film Festival. Khan will then head to Canada to honour a commitment in Vancouver.

Franchise CEO of the Kolkata Knight Riders Venky Mysore was quoted as telling The Telegraph, “Shah Rukh will try to make it for the May 3 game, against the Rising Pune Supergiant, but if he cannot then he’ll certainly be at the Eden for KKR’s last home match, on May 13, against the Mumbai Indians.”

Shah Rukh Khan has already cut down his appearances at the Eden Gardens for the KKR home fixtures. He doesn’t feature in the stands so often in his team’s away matches either. Nevertheless, King Khan missing as many as 5 home games at the Eden Gardens this year is significant.

The Kolkata Knight Riders will play their first home game on Thursday against current table toppers Kings XI Punjab. KKR have already suffered a setback in the form of Chris Lynn, who injured himself during the match against the Mumbai Indians.

Following their clash against KXIP, KKR will go up against defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday at the Eden Gardens once again.

Apart from missing out on KKR’s next two matches against KXIP and SRH, Shah Rukh Khan will be unable to attend the Knight Riders’ big home against the Gujarat Lions, the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Delhi Daredevils.

Two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a sensational start to the tournament with Chris Lynn’s stellar knock of 93. Following a 10 wicket win over Gujarat Lions, the Knight Riders were defeated by Mumbai Indians in a last over thriller. KKR are currently at 5th position in the points table and will look to bag a couple of wins in their backyard.
