Visitors Mumbai Indians (MI) edged past hosts Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a high-scoring thriller in Mullanpur on Thursday, April 18, as the former five-time champions won by nine runs. Jasprit Bumrah stood out with figures of 3/21 in his four overs, which derailed Punjab's run chase.

On the back of Suryakumar Yadav's entertaining knock of 78 off 53 balls, Mumbai Indians posted a challenging total of 192/7 in their 20 overs. In the second innings, Bumrah struck twice in his first over to send Sam Curran and Rilee Rossouw back to the hut. The star pacer came back later in the innings and accounted for the wicket of the in-form Shashank Singh. Ashutosh Sharma scored a valiant half-century but it wasn't enough to take the hosts over the line.

After the encounter, former West Indies pacer and veteran commentator, Ian Bishop, lavished praise on Bumrah for his bowling masterclass. Bishop said that if he had the powers he would not have waited for Bumrah to retire before giving him coaching duties.

"If I could anoint Jasprit Bumrah with a fast bowling PHD, I would. He is a terrific communicator, Knowledgeable & articulate. I’d then have him hold bowling lectures to young for aspiring seam bowlers across the country at all levels. I wouldn’t wait until he retired. #prefessor," Bishop posted on his official 'X' handle.
