Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings exchanged blows in Match 17 of the Indian Premier League 2024 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday. PBKS won the toss and decided to bat on a pitch that was a mix of black and red soil. GT openers, Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha meant business when they started dispatching boundaries. However, Saha departed after scoring 11, and Kane Williamson’s comeback meant he had just 26 runs off 22 balls to showcase.

But the GT captain kept grinding, as Sai Sudharsan looked in fine touch throughout his innings. The duo stitched a 53-run stand as Sudharsan departed for 33 off 19. Vijay Shankar tried little, contributing only eight runs, but Rahul Tewatia showed why he is termed an underrated finisher. The southpaw's quickfire 23 runs off eight deliveries propelled GT to an above par score of 199 losing four wickets.

Shashank Singh sees through PBKS in last over thriller

PBKS top order shook after Shikhar Dhawan departed, scoring one run. Jonny Bairstow continued his usual smashing as he put 22 runs to his name. Parbhsimran Singh looked at his cautious best and opened his arms at regular intervals in his 35 runs off 24 balls stay. Sam Curran’s contribution was limited to just five runs coming up the order. But it was Shashank Singh's shows altogether who came to bat at number five.

He along with Jitesh Sharma provided the much-needed aid to broken PBKS. They partnered for an important 39-run stand and with Jitesh departing, dark clouds appeared back. Ashutosh Sharma scored a blistering 31 off 17 and Punjab were back in the contest. With seven needed off the final over, Shashank scored a boundary off the fourth delivery, and a single on the subsequent ball sealed the deal for the visiting side with three wickets and a ball remaining.
