India are all set to take on West Indies in a two-match Test series, with the first match to begin from Wednesday, July 12, at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in Dominica. The Test series is India's first assignment in the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. After the two Tests, India will also play three ODIs as well as five T20Is against the Windies.
Ahead of the opening Test, India captain Rohit Sharma and his Windies counterpart Kraigg Brathwaite met the Dominican Minister for Culture, Youth, Sports & Community Development, Hon. Gretta Roberts.
Windies Cricket released a photo of the two captains with the Minister on Twitter. Both Rohit and Brathwaite were seen donning T-shirts with their respective boards' logos on them.
"Captain of the @BCCI Test team, Rohit Sharma & WI Captain, Kraigg Brathwaite, take a moment with the Minister for Culture, Youth, Sports & Community Development, Hon. Gretta Roberts in Dominica. #WIvIND #WIHome," Windies Cricket captioned the post.

Rohit Sharma to captain India in an away series for the first time
Rohit Sharma took over the Test captaincy after batting stalwart Virat Kohli stepped down from the role in January 2022. The two-match Test series against the West Indies will mark his first-ever away series as the captain. Notably, the 36-year-old led team India to a 2-1 series win over the Pat Cummins-led Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home earlier in 2023.
Furthermore, he failed to help India in ending their International Cricket Council (ICC) trophy drought when they suffered a crushing 209-run defeat over Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final at The Oval in London earlier in June. However, in order to continue as India's captain in the longest format of the game, the right-handed batter is expected to impress with both captaincy and batting skills in the forthcoming series.
