Earlier this week, during the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) versus Gujarat Titans (GT) match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, a video went viral on social media where it seemed like Matheesha Pathirana touched the legendary MS Dhoni's feet.

On Tuesday, March 26, a video taken during the CSK versus GT clash received a lot of love on social media as it seemed like Pathirana touched the Indian stalwart's feet to take his blessings. However, a new video from a different angle has emerged where it can be seen that the 21-year-old, who was playing his first game in IPL 2024, crouched to pick up a bowling marker. While it is evident from the latest video that Pathirana didn't actually touch Dhoni's feet, there is no doubt that the Kandy-born has immense respect for the iconic cricketer.

Dhoni is one of the most respected cricketers around the world. His achievements on the cricket field speak volumes of his greatness. The wicketkeeper-batter led India to three ICC titles and the Chennai Super Kings to five IPL titles, the last of them coming in 2023. However, he is still one of the most humble cricketers going around and fans love that quality about him. Fellow cricketers also look up to him and take inspiration.

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Dhoni relinquished captaincy as Ruturaj Gaikwad took up the prestigious role. However, the 42-year-old continues to be an important figure on and off the field as he uses his experience to guide the new CSK captain and the young crop of players in the squad.

Last year, Sri Lankan speedster Pathirana was one of the finds of the IPL as he helped the Men in Yellow win a record-equaling fifth title. During the campaign, he took 19 wickets from 12 matches at an average of 19.53. Dhoni played a vital role in guiding the youngster to an impressive campaign.

Coming back to the match, the Super Kings won their encounter against Gujarat by 63 runs after posting a total of 206/6 in the first innings. The defending champions are placed at the top of the points table with two wins from as many games. They will be seen in action on Sunday, March 31 in Visakhapatnam as they take on Delhi Capitals in their first away fixture of the season.
