The Indian team dropped middle-order batting ace Sanju Samson for the second ODI against New Zealand riling up fans and experts alike. However, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer explained the team management's thought process behind the omission of Samson despite the batter playing well in the series opener in Auckland.

Shikhar Dhawan's decision to go with just five bowling options in the series opener against the Kiwis backfired as Kane Williamson and Tom Latham guided the hosts to a comfortable victory. In a bid to add more stability to the team, India included Deepak Hooda in the starting eleven as he provides an additional bowling option to Dhawan.

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer felt that the omission of Sanju Samson was really disappointing but since India doesn't have enough all-rounders in the team, he had to make way for Hooda.

Taking to Twitter, Jaffer wrote: "Sanju was dropped despite playing well cos we don't have enough all-rounders and part-time options. My two cents on why there's a dearth of all-rounders and part-timers."

Need to show patience while they develop: Jaffer

The ex-cricketer turned expert further illustrated the shortcoming of the Indian team in the all-rounder department stating that they often expose raw talents too quickly. He reckoned that the management needs to be more patient with them as they are a rare breed of cricketers who don't come around often, He also remarked that the introduction of bowling machines and throwdown specialists has made part-time bowlers, who used to bowl in the nets, redundant from the game.

"Lack of all-rounders: We don't manage all-rounders well. Because there aren't many around, we're quick to play them at the highest level, but then after a few bad outings, they're out as quickly as they got in. Vijay Shankar, Venky Iyer, Shivam Dube, and Krunal Pandya few examples. Need to show patience while they develop. Lack of part time bowling options: With bowling machines and throwdown specialists around, batters have stopped bowling in the nets," he added
