South African batsman Richard Levi was playing for the English county cricket team Northamptonshire when he received a blow on the head. Conceding a 196-run first innings deficit, Northamptonshire was looking to offer some kind of resilience as Worcestershire bowlers were wreaking havoc. Levi was batting on 28 from 58 deliveries when the unfortunate incident happened.

He received a blow right in his helmet. Josh Tongue was the bowler, who has represented English U-19 side in the past. Levi had scored just 10 runs in the first innings as Northamptonshire were bowled out for 238. Worcestershire batters were good with the bat as they managed to get 434 runs, thereby getting a massive first innings lead of 196. The official Twitter handle of Worcestershire wrote “Levi on his way to hospital in ambulance.” Levi had to receive treatment in the field itself and umpires were forced to call an early lunch.

A note on Richard Levi

Richard Ernest Levi is a 29-year old right-handed batsman from South Africa. He is known to be a specialist in the shortest format of the game. He has played 13 T20 Internationals for South Africa. In those matches, he has accumulated 236 runs with an average of over 20. His impressive strike rate of 140 shows why he is considered as a T20 specialist. He even featured in the Indian Premier League for the three-time IPL winning team Mumbai Indians.

Levi also represented his country South Africa in the U-19 World Cup which took place in 2006. His introduction on his Twitter handle reads “Part-time fisherman. Full-time human being. Play the odd game of cricket.” His highest score is 117 runs. He scored those in just 51 balls against the Black Caps, chasing 174. He ended his relation with South Africa by signing a Kolpak deal as an English-qualified player in 2014. But he didn’t stop playing for the Cape Cobras in the South African domestic league.
