Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have five wins in eight league matches of IPL 2022 and are at fourth position in the points table. After five consecutive wins, they suffered a defeat in the last game against Gujarat Titans (GT). In the ongoing fixture, they are up against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their ninth league match. Ahead of this league match, Wasim Jaffer and Deep Dasgupta discussed key takeaways from SRH’s performance in this season.

Jaffer thinks the side has certainly improved their performances and pointed out that the team followed the same template to win five consecutive matches. He reckoned that the team’s batting performances in the last game against a good bowling attack will certainly push the confidence of the batting unit. Jaffer picked the likes of Abhishek Sharma and Umran Malik, as the positives for the team. He added that despite Kane Williamson not contributing enough, the team has done quite well and is one of the favourites for reaching the playoffs.

“SRH is one of the most improved teams, in my opinion. In the five games they have won, they won the toss as well and restricted opposition under 170, and chased it down in a comfortable manner. In their last game against the Titans, they batted first and posted a strong score, which would put a lot of positives. The likes of Abhishek Sharma and Umran Malik have been positive for them this season,” said Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.

“Even without Williamson’s contribution, they have been able to win games, which shows the team can also improve. I feel they are one of the favourites to go into the playoffs, along with Lucknow and Gujarat,” Jaffer added.

SRH have played like New Zealand team under Williamson, says Dasgupta

Dasgupta reckoned that the approach of the SRH and New Zealand teams has been the same under Kane Williamson’s captaincy. He thinks both the teams do not have explosive players, but the contribution as a whole unit has done wonders for them.

“This is like very similar to how the teams have played under Kane Williamson, be it New Zealand or Sunrisers. You won’t see massive names, but it’s like the sum total of all the individuals contributing as a unit. SRH have tried to maximize the resources they have and look what they have achieved in this season,” said Dasgupta.
