The English team led by Joe Root has had a devastating and a forgettable Ashes tour down under so far. They have already lost the battle halfway in the series after the hosts won the third Test by a massive margin and reclaimed the prestigious Urn.

The visitors have extremely lacked competitiveness and their experienced campaigners have failed to play as per their potential, which seems to be the main reason describing the performance of the England team in the three matches in the Ashes 2017-18.

It was looking all good for the team after posting 403 runs in the first innings of the third Test match at the WACA. Then they were also fortunate to see the back of both the Aussie openers very early in the game. But the Australian skipper Steve Smith had some other plans to encounter the English bowling attack.

He scored his second double century and stitched a crucial 301-run partnership with returning all-rounder Mitchell Marsh who also played aggressively in his knock of 181 runs. These two helped Australians gain a 259-run first innings lead after which the bowlers wrapped things up pretty quickly to claim the victory.

Cook tops the list of unfortunate players

England opener Alastair Cook has had his share of struggles with consistent failures in the longest format of the game. Before, the start of the series down under he was the guy that the whole English team looked upon to bring in his vast experience and positivity, but getting dismissed for low scores in the three Test matches has been the story for the veteran.

Now with 14 defeats in 18 matches in Australia, he has become the cricketer with most Test losses in a country away from home.

Accompanying Cook are former English cricketer Sir Jack Hobbs and Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar who were also involved in 14 losses in Australia. The other Englishman in the chart is fast bowler James Anderson who has 12 defeats to his name in the same nation.

Former West Indian veteran Shivnarine Chanderpaul is the only one in the list to have suffered his highest number of defeats in South Africa, whereas the others have faced it in Australia.
