With the World T20 played in 2016, the Twenty20 International format turned out to be the most played format in the year with exactly 100 T20I. Playing a lot of games and performances resulted in a good year for Team India despite losing out in the semi-final to eventual champs West Indies.

Most of the Indians who featured in the T20Is this year made their presence felt in the leading performers charts as well. Here we look at the numbers in T20I format on how the shortest form of the game has fared in 2016.

1 – India vs West Indies T20I at Lauderhill was the first instance of two centuries being scored in the same T20I game.

4 – Mohammad Nabi picked up two 4-wicket hauls in T20Is in 2016. He became the 4th player to take two 4-fers in a year in T20Is. Ajantha Mendis has done it twice.

5/14 – Imad Wasim’s bowling figures of 5/14 against West Indies at Dubai are the best figures in T20Is in 2016.

7 – Number of fifty plus scores Virat Kohli has recorded in T20Is in 2016, the most by any player in a calendar year. For the previous most there were 4 players with 5 fifty plus scores in a year in T20Is.

8 – Number of T20I centuries scored in 2016, the most in any year. 2012 witnessed 4 centuries in T20Is.

13 – Number of T20Is Sri Lanka lost in 2016, the most by any team in a calendar year. They overhauled Pakistan’s 12 games losing record in 2010.

14 – Colin Munro’s 14-ball fifty against Sri Lanka in Auckland is the fastest T20I fifty in 2016. This is the 2nd fastest fifty in T20Is. Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball fifty vs England in 2007 is the fastest.

15 – Number of T20Is India won in 2016, the most by any team in a calendar year. Afghanistan won 11 T20Is in 2016, the 2nd most by any team in a year.

25 – Sixes hit by Mohammad Shahzad in 2016 in T20Is, the most by any player. These are the joint 2nd most sixes hit by a player in a calendar year. Shane Watson hit 28 sixes in 2012.

27 – Dismissals effected by MS Dhoni in T20Is in 2016, the most by any player in a calendar year. Adam Gilchrist’s 16 dismissals in 2007 are the previous most for any player in a year in this format.

28 – Wickets taken by Jasprit Bumrah in T20Is in 2016, the most by any player in the calendar year in T20Is. He broke Drik Nannes’ record of 27 wickets in 2010.

46 – KL Rahul’s 46-ball century against West Indies in Lauderhill is the fastest T20I century in 2016. This is the joint 2nd fastest century in T20Is. Richard Levi’s 45-ball ton vs New Zealand in 2012 is the fastest.

70 – Bangladesh 70/10 vs New Zealand in WT20 at Kolkata is the lowest total (full 20 overs game) in T20Is in 2016. Only 8 totals have been recorded lower than Bangladesh’s 70 overall T20Is.

100 – Number of T20I matches played in 2016, the most in any calendar year. Previous most was 82 T20Is in 2012.

145* – Glenn Maxwell’s 145* vs Sri Lanka at Pallakele is the highest individual score in T20Is in 2016. This is also the 2nd highest individual score in T20I format with only Aaron Finch’s 156 ahead of Maxwell’s 145*.

171* – Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson’s partnership of 171* for the first wicket vs Pakistan at Hamilton in January is the highest stand for any wicket in T20Is beating Bosman-Smith’s 170-run stand for South Africa vs England at Centurion.

263/3 – Australia’s 263/3 vs Sri Lanka at Pallakele is not only the highest T20I score in 2016 but also the highest team total overall T20I cricket overhauling Sri Lanka’s 260/6 vs Kenya in 2007.

489 – The T20I between India and West Indies at Lauderhill aggregated 489 runs, the most in a T20I game. Previous highest was 467 runs in South Africa vs West Indies in 2015 at Johannesburg.

641 – Runs scored by Virat Kohli in T20Is in 2016, the most by any player in a calendar year in T20Is. Mohammad Shahzad’s 520 and Rohit Sharma’s 497 stand at No.2 and No.3 which also have come in 2016.
