The build up to the 2018-19 season of the Big Bash League has already begun. The teams have started looking out for their new recruits for the upcoming season. In a recent update, the Sydney Sixers have signed up John Hastings with a one year deal. Hastings, who retired from First Class cricket last year, has previously been associated with the Melbourne Stars for the last seven years.
Last season, he captained the Stars and had a disappointing team outing. As per the recent reports in the official website of the Big Bash, John Hastings expressed his happiness at returning back to Sydney. He remarked that he has a lot of good memories of the place and it was a nice feeling being back in the city.
“It is nice to be back in Sydney actually, it brought back a lot of nice memories walking through that NSW cricket office. I’ve got an opportunity to come back and play with a lot of close friends of mine, Stevie O’Keefe was best man at my wedding and Moises Henriques and I played a lot of cricket together as juniors and Pete Nevill is one of my good mates as well,” John Hastings quoted.
AB de Villiers next?
Meanwhile, the General Manager of the Sydney Sixers remarked that they are very keen on roping in AB de Villiers next. AB announced his shock retirement from international cricket recently. The franchise is very optimistic of getting a positive response from the former South African cricketer.
“We hope we’ll be in a pretty good position if he wants to come out. From a family point of view, we feel we offer a pretty attractive package in Sydney and he’s previously stated his love for the SCG. We’re very keen to have him, should he want to come out, but we also realise he said he’s keen to play domestic cricket in South Africa,” Sixers general manager Jodie Hawkins told AAP.
Currently, the Sydney Sixers have 8 more slots to fill for the upcoming season. They have not signed any international cricket thus far.
