The eighth day of the Vitality T20 Blast just witnessed one game played. The two teams that didn’t play on the seventh day of the league faced off each other. It was Lancashire and Derbyshire who locked horns in a North group encounter.

Lancashire won this game by 12 runs and hence moved up to the second position on the points table. Toby Lester was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ for his four-wicket haul which played a crucial part in his teams’ win. Derbyshire has not won a single game thus far and is last second on the points table.

Lancashire vs Derbyshire – North Group

After winning the toss, Lancashire opted to bat first. The openers laid a perfect foundation for them to put up a big total on the board. Alex Davies and Liam Livingstone added 68 runs in the first six overs. While Davies scored 31, Livingstone scored 44. However, the Derby bowlers came back beautifully. They kept picking wickets and brought Lancashire down to 129/5 in 15 overs. The team managed to put up 157 runs on the board for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Wahab Riaz, Alex Hughes, and Matthew Critchley picked two wickets each.

Derbyshire could have chased this down quite easily. But most of their batsmen couldn’t really get going. They scored at a slow pace which resulted in pressure mounting up. Moreover, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and made a complete mess of this chase. Their opener Ben Slater was dismissed right in the first over. Callum MacLeod scored 30 off 29 balls. Wayne Madsen with 34 runs was the highest scorer in the innings. Wicket-keeper Daryn Smith scored 28 runs. It was Toby Lester with four wickets who put Derby on the backfoot. Derbyshire fell short of the target by 12 runs.

Brief Scores:

LANCS: 157/8 in 20 overs (L Livingstone 44, Alex Davies 31, Wahab Riaz 2/20)

DERBY: 145/7 in 20 overs (Wayne Madsen 34, Callum MacLeod 30, Toby Lester 4/25)
