Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced Tania Mallick as the new head of the PCB’s women’s cricket. She will officially start working from October 1. Mallick will replace former Pakistan batter Urooj Mumtaz, who relinquished the additional responsibilities in May to focus only on selection matters of the Pakistan women’s cricket.

In her tenure, Mumtaz was instrumental in getting contract hikes for the players. Also, young players like Syeeda Aroob Shah, Ayesha Naseem, and Fatima Sana emerged during this time, who have gone on to have an impact on the national team in a short period. And hence PCB, as well as Mumtaz, might have thought on those lines in allowing the latter to focus on the selection matters only.

Meanwhile, Mallick, former national badminton champion, comes with a sound educational background and experience. She has a Masters’s degree from LUMS University and has also represented in Seoul Asian Games in 1986. Besides that, the new PCB women’s head is also the vice-president of the Punjab Olympic Association since 2010, and also the vice-president of the Punjab Squash Association, as reported by Cricket Pakistan.

Currently, Mallick is also serving as a member of the Pakistan Olympic Association’s Education and Women’s Commissions. So she comes with a tremendous amount of reputation and also a solid background. With Pakistan showing some remarkable signs of improvement, it is certainly a great time for Mallick to help evolve the team to new heights.

Mallick has also previously been part of World Bank Women Development projects working with various multinational organizations.

Exciting times are ahead for Pakistan women’s cricket

Pakistan were last seen playing a limited-overs series against West Indies. Although the team lost the series in the absence of regular skipper Bismah Maroof, they showed good performances with some heartening performances from young players like Naseem, Daina Baig, and Diana Baig. The team also played a simultaneous A tour of West Indies and that was a step in the right direction by both PCB and CWI boards.

Next up, Pakistan will be seen in the Qualifiers of the upcoming ICC Women’s 50 over World Cup. Mallick will be soon taking calls on the important matters of the team for the upcoming games lined up.
