Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed is likely to be out of contention for the team’s upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies. It is to be noted that Ahmed suffered a shoulder injury during his side’s first Test against South Africa back in April, which saw him being ruled out of the final Test of the series. It was due to the same injury that the pacer was sidelined from the ongoing Sri Lanka series.

In the same light of events, BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury added that a conservative management approach will be followed for Ahmed’s recovery. He added that it isn’t yet sure that the pacer will miss the entire Caribbean tour as a lot will depend on his recovery, and that he might get included for shorter versions of the game, which include three ODIs and T20Is each.

“We will go for conservative management for the next four weeks and see what happens. We can’t be certain if he will miss the whole series. We can’t say a month before the series whether he will be ruled out. The team will leave during the first week of June so it may be that we will think of his inclusion for the shorter versions,” said BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury while speaking to Cricbuzz.

I am eager to play again as soon as possible: Taskin Ahmed

Bangladesh is all set to play two Tests against West Indies, a tour for which they will leave home on June 6. The opening Test is to be staged in Antigua from June 16 while the final Test would take place in St. Lucia from June 24th. Taskin, who recently returned home after getting his shoulder assessed in London, added that it’s too early to take a call on his availability as everything depends on his degree of recovery.

“I think it is too early to say when I will be available because everything will depend on my improvement but I am eager to play again as soon as possible,” said Taskin Ahmed.
