Team India flies to the Caribbean without Anil Kumble

The Kohli-Kumble controversy is spicing with every passing day as we have another big news coming from the BCCI sources.  The head coach of the Indian cricket team Anil Kumble did not accompany his players on their journey to the Caribbean. According to reports, Virat Kohli and his men flew without their mentor in order to play the five-match ODI series against the West Indies.

Kumble is believed to attend a meeting in London with the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) before heading to the West Indies. The CAC which is comprised of legends going by the name of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman will desperately try to resolve the complications between skipper Kohli and Anil Kumble as soon as possible.

The issue between the two came into recognition during the recently concluded Champions Trophy. The relation between them is believed to be cold at the moment and needs to be sorted out soon. BCCI has already confirmed the fact that Virat Kohli will have a role to play in the head coach selection process as he is the leader of the team. The Board does not want to take the risk of retaining Kumble against the wish of Kohli as it might cause eruptions in the dressing room. But the records are in favour of the leg-spinner due to the fact that Kumble has been flawless throughout his tenure.

The current situation:

If reports are to be believed Virat Kohli is firm on his demand for a new head coach because the relationship between the two has gone worse at least from Kohli’s side. “Kohli is very clear about where he stands vis-a-vis Kumble. It seems the relationship is beyond the repair stage, at least from Kohli’s side. However, the CAC will now meet Kumble and see if a patch-up is possible.” A BCCI official said to The Telegraph.

It will be a tough decision to make for the board as the BCCI is aware of the fact that India has been tremendously successful under  Anil Kumble. “Kumble’s track record as head coach is almost without a blemish. How does one remove him? On what grounds? To what extent should the captain have a say? Also, can we have a situation where Kohli, no matter how successful and brilliant he is, gets complete charge? Big questions need to be settled,” said the same source.
