Wriddhiman Saha flies here and there on the field. He takes catches which you only can pull off in your dreams. The 32-year-old Indian wicketkeeper took two amazing catches in this series. The one in Pune was extraordinarily good and the Bangalore one was insanely important.
He might be airborne all the time on the field but when it comes to being off the field, Saha is the most down to earth person you will ever meet. The Bengal lad is known to do the talking with his gloves. Recently he was seen unveiling the ‘superman’ wicket-keeping gloves.
Wriddhi, as he is fondly known by his teammates, was asked about which catch being tougher. And the Indian wicket-keeper without hesitation said that it was the one in Pune. Steve O’Keefe was stunned as he was out because of Saha’s screamer.
Saha said: “The catch in Pune was, of course, tougher… I took it off a pacer… Umesh bowls at 140kmph-plus, so there was much less reaction time. On the other hand, in Bangalore, I could reach the ball with both hands. And since it was off a spinner, I got a fraction of a second more. And that matters. If I was late by that fraction of a second, I wouldn’t have got to the ball.”
Back home Saha is known as ‘superman’. He was asked about the tag and was humble enough to say that he will keep trying to achieve such feat. Saha said “It feels nice… If some people are calling me ‘Superman’, it means I have done something to earn that… Also, it shows that I have been consistent.”
Wriddhiman was kind enough to say that he is very satisfied with the people’s praise and he would be happy if he plays even 10 percent of worth the praise. “It is very satisfying when people compliment you for your work. But I would be happy if I can play even 10 percent of what such praise is worth,” Saha was quoted saying.
On the catches, the Bengal-lad said that he has taken many of such catches or even better than them. The wicket-keeper batsman said, “Everyone is complimenting me for these two catches because the matches were shown on TV. But I have taken many such catches, maybe even better, in my career. I will always try to better my performance.”
He also revealed that it would have been a pleasure to see Adam Gilchrist play cricket. Saha has always loved the former Australian wicket-keeper. “He is one player against whom I would have loved to play Test cricket. It would have been interesting to see how Gilchrist approaches the game,” revealed Saha while at the function.
