Social media went berserk on Saturday when former Indian skipper Virat Kohli responded to Pakistani skipper Babar Azam’s supportive post on Twitter. While the netizens were in awe of the duo’s respect for each other, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif also weighed in on the trending topic and commended both batters for their actions.

Kohli, who is part of the Indian team in the ongoing ODI series against hosts England, has struggled for runs lately, and his outings in the white-ball series against the hosts so far haven’t been any different either. He has been on the receiving end of widespread criticism by former cricketers and experts, who have questioned his place in the team.

However, Kaif praised both the cricketers for their Twitter interaction and commended them for being great ambassadors of the game and keeping politics aside from the sport of cricket.“Babar and Virat are continuing a long India-Pakistan cricketers’ tradition of keeping sports away from politics. Rivals on field, well-wishers off it. Great player, great ambassadors. @babarazam258 @imVkohli,” he tweeted.

The stylish Indian batter found an unlikely ally in the form of Babar Azam, who has been constantly compared to the Indian cricketer due to his batting prowess. Babar had posted a tweet that read, “This too shall pass. Stay strong. #ViratKohli,” in support of the Indian batter. The Indian star responded to his post on Saturday. “Thank you. Keep shining and rising. Wish you all the best,” wrote Kohli in response to the Pakistani’s tweet.

‘So good to see this, from one Champion to Another well done’, Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh had also praised the pair’s actions on Twitter and hailed both of them as champions of the game for their heartwarming exchange amidst tension between the two neighboring countries.

“So good to see this .. from one Champion to Another well done @babarazam258 @imVkohli,” he wrote as he shared a screenshot of their posts. Meanwhile, Babar Azam registered his seventh Test ton against Sri Lanka on the second day of the first Test and surpassed Virat Kohli’s record of fastest Asian batter to 10000 runs in international cricket in the process.
