Former Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan backed Virat Kohli to perform in the much-awaited clash between India and Pakistan in the second match of the Asia Cup 2022. The match is set to take place in Dubai on August 28, Sunday. This will be Kohli’s first match since the conclusion of the India tour of England in July.

Afghan said that the former Indian captain always performs in the big games. On scoring in the Sunday fixture, Afghan feels that it depends on fate, adding that Kohli is hungry for runs, especially in a big match such as this one.

“I think so… he (Kohli) always performs in the big games,” said Afghan on CricTracker show ’Run Ki Runneeti’, presented by BatBricks7. “(On scoring a fifty) It depends on fate. But, from what we have seen, he is hungry for runs. And tomorrow’s match is also big; I’m sure he would try and put his hundred per cent.”

This break should be helpful for him: Vijay Dahiya

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Vijay Dahiya, like all the Indian fans, is hoping that Kohli would be among runs again. He feels that the break that Kohli has taken prior to the Asia Cup would help him since he would know what is best for him. He also opined that Kohli’s contribution would be important for India in the Asia Cup and in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

“We are hoping for it. As Kohli expressed in his BCCI interview, playing for a very long time with the same intensity is not easy. This break should be helpful for him as he knows everything and what he wants. What happens is when you are short of runs, you forget all the basics that helped you get here. That is why we say – go back to the basics,” said Dahiya.

Dahiya also said that a batter is always one game away from playing a good knock, which can come at any time. “If he scores against Pakistan, it would give him a lot of confidence. As a batter, you are just one game away from your best innings. And that can come at any time,” added Dahiya.
