After being engaged in an enticing T20I and ODI series, England and India will soon be locking horns in the five-match Test rubber which starts on August 1. The hosts have won the recently concluded series and Adil Rashid was one of their best performers. However, only a day after the reports surfaced that his Ed Smith, the national selector is likely to speak to him on his possible Test return, England coach Trevor Bayliss has admitted the same fact.

Rashid has given up red-ball cricket and has signed a deal with Yorkshire only as a limited-overs specialist this year. But the way he has been bowling recently is the best he’s ever bowled since his debut. Also, he troubled the best Indian batsman Virat Kohli in ODIs dismissing him twice in three matches.

With India also picking Kuldeep Yadav for Tests on the basis of his white-ball performances, it should not be a surprise if England also go the same way.

He has been top class

England coach Trevor Bayliss didn’t deny the possibility of Adil Rashid making a comeback in whites. He showered praises on the leggie for the way he bowled against the top teams like Australia and India. This year is probably the best we’ve seen him bowl. He’s bowled well in one-day cricket over the last few years but his control and his consistency this year has been top class and probably the best I’ve seen him bowl since I’ve been here,” he was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Trevor was also quick to clarify that he doesn’t know whether the national selector Ed Smith has spoken to Rashid over the same while also stressing that everything depends on the bowler if he is eager to come back. “That’s a decision Adil’s got to make. I’m not sure whether Ed Smith’s had a chat with him or not. Could he get picked in the Test team on a white-ball form? It’s already happened once this year. I’m sure he’ll be up for discussion, definitely,” he added.
