The Bangladesh Cricket team has a very good chance of reaching their best ever rankings after the conclusion of their upcoming tri-series in Ireland. The series is an unusual tri-series which will not have a final game to decide the eventual winner among the three participating teams. Apart from Bangladesh and the hosts Ireland, the third team participating in the New Zealand side.

While the Kiwis are firmly sitting in the top four of the ICC ODI rankings and Ireland slowly creeping up, the onus is on Bangladesh to continue improving their status in the rankings. Currently, they are in a good position as their recent performances has earned them the number 7 spot in the rankings. The fact that they nose ahead of the teams like Pakistan and West Indies at the moment speaks volumes about their form.

Now, they have a very good chance to move to the sixth spot in the rankings if they manage to win all their four matches in the upcoming tri-series. The wins in those four matches, two against each of the opposition, will see the Bangladeshi team finish with 97 points – a clear 4 point advantage over the Sri Lankan side. While the rankings might not sound a very happening deal to many, it is very important for the teams.

This is because of the fact that only the top 8 teams on the cut off dates set by ICC will directly qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The ICC released their statement recently where they stated about Bangladesh’s opportunity to improve.

“Bangladesh gets an opportunity to enhance its chances of direct qualification to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in an upcoming tri-series to be held in Dublin from 12 to 24 May,” the ICC release stated.
