The final WI v IND Test match concluded in perhaps the most disappointing of circumstances when play was called off due to water-logging in the pitch. With many speaking out in criticisms of the WICB, the employed groundsmen as well as the pitch curators, the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board has decided to probe an investigation into what exactly happened in the match.

The first two days saw rain making an intervention as play was subsequently called off. However, the better halves of day three, four, and five eventually saw bright sunshine. In spite of this, the water logging prevailed and the officials and groundsmen were forced to dig up the pitch in order to allow the accumulated rainwater to evaporate.

Azim Bassarath, the T&TCB Board president stated regret as for not having the match run its planned length of five days. He also added that a full investigation would be launched to find the root cause of the problem. “As hosts, the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board and QPCC (Queen’s Park Cricket Club) regret that limited play was possible in the 4th Test Match between WI and India at the Queen’s Park Oval,” Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board president Azim Bassarath said in a statement.

“We have jointly launched an investigation to determine what occurred with a view to remedying the situation so that this does not occur in the future,” the statement continued. Once this has been done it will be presented to the WICB (West Indies Cricket Board).”

The shambolic state of affairs will now have to be drastically improved in order to avoid a similar situation when Pakistan comes to tour the West Indies later this year. Pakistan became the world number one ranked side shortly after the final Test match was washed out. They will be hoping to have a good tour of Australia later this year in order to hold on to their top spot.
