Team India is taking on the home team Zimbabwe in a three-match ODI series with the first match being played at the Harare Sports Club, on August 18 Thursday. Meanwhile, the visitors after winning the toss decided to bowl first on a good-looking batting surface.
India’s stand-in skipper KL Rahul and star all-rounder Deepak Chahar have returned to the Indian side. However, Indian fans have expressed their disappointment on social media sites over the non-selection of two young batters – Rahul Tripathi and opener Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Both Tripathi and Gaikwad are yet to make their debut in the 50-over format
While Gaikwad has played for India in the T20 format, talented batter Rahul Tripathi is yet to represent India at the highest level. Both batters were named in the Indian squad to play against Zimbabwe but have been left out from the playing XI in the first fixture of the series.
Gaikwad made his last international appearance against Ireland in June, Tripathi was also named in the Indian squad for the Ireland tour, but the right-handed batter did not get a chance to make his debut. Similarly, he was also named to the Indian squad for the first T20I match against England recently, but he never made it to the playing XI.
To note, Tripathi has been a consistent performer in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Talking about his numbers in IPL, Tripathi has smashed 1798 runs in 76 games at a strike rate of 140.8. He also played some match-winning knocks for his franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the last concluded edition of the IPL. Both Tripathi and Gaikwad will want to get a chance in the second ODI fixture and get a chance to prove themselves in the 50-over format.
Team India playing XI for first ODI: Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul (c), Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson (wk), Axar Patel, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj
Meanwhile, here are some Twitter reactions:

@BCCI where is rahul tripathi? I can not see his name in the playing 11. He is on TOURIST VISA only?

No way people are upset about the non-inclusion of Rahul Tripathi in playing XI 😭😭😭
