Former Indian legendary skipper MS Dhoni took retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020, and his fans and the cricketing world came to a standstill. He played his last international game for India during the semi-final match between India and New Zealand during the 2019 World Cup. However, the way he got ran out in the same game broke the heart of millions of fans.

Dhoni’s innings ended in a heartbreaking run out as he gathered 50 off 72 balls and everyone thought that had Dhoni remained on the field for a longer period, he would have taken Indian home. Virat Kohli and his men fell short of 18 runs and the fateful day has its second anniversary today. It was only 10th July that MS Dhoni played the last game for India.

He went on a sabbatical after this particular game and only returned for the 2020 Indian Premier League which took place in the UAE. He announced his retirement there only and was joined by his India and CSK teammate Suresh Raina in the decision. Raina also announced his decision to retire there and broke the news through social media.

It was expected that MSD would play the next T20 WC with India which was earlier scheduled for 2020 but as the pandemic wreaked its havoc, the tournament got shifted to 2021. Dhoni didn’t wait for long and announced his abrupt retirement and this is why he couldn’t even get a proper farewell match.  As the day happened two years back, Twitter can’t keep calm.
